We are focused on

We are focused on:

  • The investigation of the mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of chronic neutropenias at the cellular and molecular levels. We are specifically interested in the identification of the genetic background of these disorders and their immune disturbances.
  • The identification of clonal haemopoiesis in patients with chronic idiopathic neutropenia (CIN), the clonal evolution and its relation to disease evolution to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and/or Myelodysplastic Neoplasm (MDS).
  • The characterization of the reserves and functional characteristics of bone marrow (BM)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in CIN and MDS.
  • The study of the myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in the umbilical cord blood, peripheral blood and BM in normal and disease states such as CIN and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).
  • The registration of patients with CIN and ITP in our databases following informed consent and under the GDPR regulations.
  • The investigation of the use of cellular products and plasma from umbilical cord units donated in the Public Cord Blood Bank of Crete that do not fulfil the criteria for transplantation, for Regenerative Medicine purposes following informed consent of the donors.
